The Take Your Business to Texas Breakfast was held June 11 as part of the launch of the new direct flight from Edmonton International Airport to Dallas-Fort Worth, and the continuation of direct service between Edmonton and Houston. We gathered three local entrepreneurs who have global businesses based here in the Edmonton region, so we could find out more about how they did it and what they’ve learned.
Michèle Hecken is the founder and CEO of Alpha Translations Canada Inc., a global localization agency providing expert language services to international clients for 20 years. Michèle drove Alpha Translations to achieve over 200 per cent growth in her first four years and transformed the home-based business in Spruce Grove into a global enterprise with multimillion-dollar revenues. In 2011, she co-founded Alpha Global Experts, a boutique consultancy firm specializing in global expansion and culture for business, helping companies succeed in international markets. She holds a master’s degree in translation, and is a graduate of the Entrepreneurial Masters Program at MIT.

It has a presence in Edmonton; Malvern, Pennsylvania; DongGuan, China; Stoney Creek, Ontario; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Morrow, Georgia. He and his wife Tammy started expanding the company in 1999, and by 2008, Ideal Products was named one of Canada’s 100 fastest growing companies. In 2009, Rob was nominated for Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year award. He sees his role as overseeing the culture of his company, ensuring everyone understands and lives by the core values: Act With Integrity; Support Each Other; Do What it Takes; Respect For All; Always be Learning.
Mark Fitzsimmons is the president of Psychometrics Canada. He is committed to creating positive change within public and private sector organizations through improved employee selection and development methods.
